Guiding Principles

Given that participation in our research initiatives is voluntary for both AAPP physicians and their patients, the design and execution of the our research must be constructed to:

  • Minimize the level of effort required for practices and patients to participate;
  • Allow for study-related data to be collected easily within the daily practice routine;
  • Protect the privacy of each patient and practice; and
  • Provide information that will aid AAPP and its members in conveying the substantive benefits of private medicine when talking with individual patients, corporate clients, and local media.

Within appropriate privacy protections and HIPAA guidelines, AAPP may utilize aggregate data from its studies for publication in the Journal of Private Medicine and other national media.  At no time, however, will patient-specific data be released to anyone other than the patient and their private physician, consistent with agreements executed during practice and patient enrollment in AAPP studies.
